What do you think about the proposal for Inland Revenue to facilitate a payroll reference group?
Do you think an on-line forum will be useful to support the work of the payroll reference group?
I don't feel valued given my importance to the tax system (issue 3/3)
I feel under-recognised, given how important the software I build is to the tax system.
Inland Revenue’s main focus is on supporting taxpayers, which sometimes constrains its ability to support those who provide taxpayers with tools and services to help them comply.
Amanda is a payroll software developer.
She identifies a market niche for a software product which would assist the not-for-profit sector to electronically calculate payroll, and then file and pay PAYE.
Amanda is struggling to get anyone at Inland Revenue to discuss her ideas with her, or to work with her so she can develop the product for sale.
What is being proposed
Inland Revenue will work more closely with software developers to develop a more interactive tax system.
A payroll business reference group will be established to work with Inland Revenue to design a tax system with better customer functionality.
The group’s work will be made public, ensuring that it is transparent and inclusive, and does not provide a commercial advantage to only a few.

She works with both the payroll reference group and Inland Revenue. Inland Revenue makes a minor amendment to its technology which will allow Amanda’s product to deliver better information into Inland Revenue’s system electronically.
