How do you feel about building software which delivers increased tax functionality?
The software I build can only have limited interaction with Inland Revenue’s systems (issue 1/3)
The software I build can only have limited interaction with Inland Revenue’s systems.
Inland Revenue’s systems have limited ability to send and receive information.
Whilom Software Limited builds accounting software for small businesses.
Businesses using that software can file their employer monthly schedules (IR348) electronically, but if they discover they have made a mistake they need to send Inland Revenue a paper form to correct it.
What is being proposed
Software that meets certain standards will be able to connect directly to Inland Revenue.
Software developers will be able to build software with the capacity for two-way communication.
The software will take information out of Inland Revenue’s systems, display it and use it in PAYE calculations. The software will upload information directly to Inland Revenue, removing the need for your clients to file separate electronic or paper returns.
This software will be built under a voluntary quality management system. Inland Revenue will release a set of standards, and products that meet these standards will be able to be sold showing some kind of logo or agreed endorsement.
Whilom Software Limited can now build a package that deals with employers’ PAYE obligations in a fully-integrated and automated way.
This software downloads information from Inland Revenue for each user’s employees, to enable it to make the correct PAYE calculation.
When that calculation has been made, information is automatically sent back to Inland Revenue.
Errors are less likely, and if they occur they can be corrected using the software.
